A sobriquet is a nickname, sometimes a humorous or descriptive one, given to an individual or factor. The phrase is derived from the French phrase “soubrette,” that means “chambermaid.” Sobriquets are sometimes used to poke enjoyable at somebody’s look, persona, or habits. They may also be used to indicate affection or admiration.
Sobriquets have been used for hundreds of years, and they are often present in all cultures. A number of the most well-known sobriquets embrace “The Nice” (Alexander the Nice), “The Lionheart” (Richard I of England), and “The Iron Woman” (Margaret Thatcher).
